Wheelchair Rugby League is coming to Midlands Hurricanes in the 2026 season, thanks to a new partnership with existing side Hereford Harriers.
Hereford Harriers were formed in the autumn of 2014 and first competed in the RFL Championship the year after. They have won the RFL Challenge Trophy twice, the first coming during the inaugural competition in 2018 and again in 2024, where they also finished top of the Championship West table.
They also competed in the WRL Wheelchair Invitational League in 2023-24, reaching the final in their first season. They currently play their games at the Leominster Leisure Centre, Coningsby Road, Leominster, HR6 8LL.
The side will now be rebranded with the Midlands Hurricanes name and kit and will play in the eight-team RFL Wheelchair Championship. Our opponents in the 2026 season will be Batley Bulldogs, Castleford Tigers, Gravesend Dynamite, North Wales Crusaders, Rochdale Hornets, Wakefield Trinity and York RLFC.
In addition to the announcement of our partnership with Warwickshire County Cricket Club, we can confirm that 2026 Season Ticket holders will be able to watch all Midlands Hurricanes Wheelchair Rugby fixtures free of charge.
Hurricanes’ Managing Director, Eorl Crabtree said:
“Adding a Wheelchair Rugby League team marks an important step in our long-term strategy. We’re building a club that champions accessibility, develops talent in all forms, and represents the very best of our region.
I can’t wait for the new season to see a live match in person.”
“We’re delighted to be under the Midlands Hurricanes banner as we enter the new improved RFL Wheelchair Championship in 2026.
We’ve played as Hereford Harriers for over a decade and have thoroughly enjoyed everything we’ve done. We’ve produced international players, won trophies and introduced so many players into Wheelchair Rugby League.
But we felt it was now time to link up with Midlands Hurricanes, the region’s only professional rugby league club, so we can advance, recruit more players and eventually make a claim for Super League.
We’d like to thank Eorl Crabtree for all the support he’s already given us and we can’t wait to see what the future holds”
