Our Story

Midlands Hurricanes RLFC is a professional rugby league club based in Birmingham, England. The Hurricanes compete in the Betfred Championship competition of the Rugby Football League which sits just below the Betfred Super League.

The club re-branded from Coventry Bears following the conclusion of the Betfred League One Season in 2021, who had previously developed the sport since 1998 in the West Midlands and was a very successful amateur club until it joined the semi-professional ranks in 2015. Following 23 years playing in Coventry, the club remains based in the West Midlands but in the UK’s Second City – Birmingham.

The vision of the Hurricanes is to bring together the rugby league community in the Midlands whilst growing the club both on and off the field. Our aim is to develop new supporters and players within one regional club that represents this large geographic area of untapped potential for rugby league.

2024 represented our most successful season to date, with the Hurricanes finishing in fifth place and making the Betfred League One Play-offs for the first time. We followed that up with a very good and enjoyable 2025 season that saw the club earn its highest points tally to date. 2025 also saw former Huddersfield Giants and England stalwart Eorl Crabtree join the club as its Managing Director.

Following the decision to merge the second and third tiers of the professional game following the conclusion of the 2025 season, we are now looking forward to the challenge that our maiden Betfred Championship campaign presents.
