We are delighted to announce that full-back Todd Horner has signed an extension to his contract that will seem him remain at Avery Fields until the end of the 2028 season.
Todd, 22, was one of Men’s Head Coach Mark Dunning’s first signings after joining the Canes himself mid-way through the 2023 season, with the then 19-year old Horner no stranger to Mark and Leigh as he came up through Bradford Bulls academy and reserve systems.
Todd showed his potential with his first touch of the ball in a Canes jersey, cutting through the Dewsbury Rams defence to score an impressive try at The Alexander Stadium. Todd’s efforts in a Canes shirt have seen him cement his position as a staple of the squad, playing 71 times and scoring 24 tries mostly from full-back (with occasional stints at centre or on the wing when circumstances have required it).
With several games of this season left to go and two further years in Birmingham locked in, Todd could well find himself earning the record of most appearances for the club – an accolade currently held by former winger Hayden Freeman. One thing’s for certain: we know every Canes fan will be excited to see “Toddles” putting 110% into every performance for another two seasons.
Mark Dunning spoke with us about securing Todd until 2028:
We’re delighted that Todd has committed to the club and the Canes family for the next two years.
Todd was one of the first additions to the club back in 2023 and his progression and development has earned him this extension.
Todd has still got loads of development in him but he’s durable, eager to learn and committed to his craft which all gives him solid foundations to do so.
He’s a very coachable young man and we’re all very excited to see him continue to grow in a Canes shirt. I’m sure our fans will agree.

Firstly, I want to say a massive thank you to Mark, Leigh [Beattie] and the rest of the coaching staff as well as Mike [Lomas] for giving me this opportunity.
I’m really excited to be staying with the club for the next two years; it’s a great environment to be part of and I am so grateful for the opportunity to keep developing.
