We can confirm that both Head of Strength and Conditioning Carl Foulstone and Sports Therapist Helen Gray will depart the Canes following the conclusion of the 2026 season.
Helen joined the Canes at the start of the 2025 off-season and has been an ever-present fixture of the club’s backroom staff over the last two seasons. Having helped patch up plenty of battered bodies whilst juggling both her studies and another part-time job at the same time, she will be much missed by everyone at the club.
Carl – affectionately known as “Potts” – joined the club at the start of this season following stints at Super League sides Salford Red Devils and Huddersfield Giants. Getting stuck in immediately, he has contributed massively to a Canes team that was routinely commended for their fitness throughout this season.
Unfortunately (and unsurprisingly) that sort of quality and experience will naturally attract interest from Super League clubs, and Carl has been offered a full-time role for 2027 which we fully appreciate would have been very difficult for him to turn down.
On Helen leaving the club, Canes Men’s Head Coach Mark Dunning said:
Helen is leaving us after two years as our Sports Therapist.
I want to thank Helen who originally stood in to help us when we were without a physio back then and has found herself still here up to now. Nothing was ever too much trouble for her and she worked hard to support the team behind the scenes alongside her studies and her job.
I want to thank Helen for everything she has contributed and wish her all the very best going forward with her career.
On Potts leaving for pastures new, Mark said:
We say goodbye to Pottsy who has taken up a position with a club in Super League for 2027.
Pottsy has been great for us and has along with the other staff worked tirelessly alongside his full time job to provide the team with the best possible tools and opportunities to maximise their physical abilities.
Since leaving Huddersfield he has made no secret of his desire to be full time again and he feels this is the right opportunity for him and his young family.
I’d like to thank him for all his hard work and wish him all the very best going forward.
We would like to place on record our thanks for everything both Helen and Carl have done for the Canes during their time and we’re sure our fans will wish them nothing but the best for the next chapter of their careers.
An advert for a new Head of Strength and Conditioning Coach will be issued later this evening.
