SHAW JOINS THE STORM

We are pleased to confirm the signing of former Wakefield and Salford prop Isaac Shaw on a deal until the end of the 2027 season.

Shaw, 23, has made 34 professional career appearances to date and boasts experience at Super League, Elite One, Championship and League One level. Having made his professional debut off the bench for Wakefield Trinity at just 19 years old during their 24-22 away defeat to Catalans Dragons in 2022, he would go on to make a total of five appearances for Wakefield in his debut season alongside a couple of loan appearances for Championship side Sheffield Eagles.

Swapping England for France, Isaac departed Wakefield to sign for Elite One Championship side Villeneuve Leopards until the end of the 2023 season. He would make six appearances for the Leopards and score his first professional try before re-signing for Trinity towards the end of the 2023 Super League season, where he would make one appearance for Wakefield and another on loan for Hull Kingston Rovers. Shaw would stay with Trinity for their barnstorming 2024 Championship-winning season, making six appearances from the bench in addition to four additional appearances on dual-registration with then-League One side Hunslet.

Whilst he stuck with Trinity for their return to the Super League in 2025, he was unable to break into the first team but secured half a dozen appearances on loan for fellow Championship side Batley Bulldogs. He would then agree a mutual release from his contract with Wakefield to pursue other opportunities within the sport, eventually signing for Salford Red Devils in August 2025 for their final four games of the Super League season. Whilst he was selected at 18th man for the Red Devils’ remarkable victory over Warrington Wolves, he would go on to make three appearances from the bench during their games against Catalans Dragons, Huddersfield Giants and former side Wakefield.

Shaw has now swapped the North for the Midlands as he looks to establish himself within the Canes as they enter their maiden Championship campaign.

Speaking with CanesTV, Isaac said:

I’m over the moon to finally be able to pen a deal with Mark and the Canes – I’m excited to be part of the club and the direction it’s going.

I can’t wait to get in and meet the lads but most importantly get to work and prove myself to the coaches and the fans as the club faces a new test in the Championship for 2026.

Head Coach Mark Dunning also spoke with CanesTV about Isaac’s signing:

We’re delighted to welcome Isaac and his family to the club and the wider Canes family.
Isaac is a big, direct middle who will add and contribute nicely to the pack we currently have at the club. We were made aware of his availability during the off-season and upon speaking to him I was impressed by his outlook on the game.
He’s been in good systems and gained valuable experience at both Super League and Championship level over the last few years, which will stand him in good stead as he looks to work his way in to our team and establish himself over the next two years.
With our previous squad numbers being released on New Year’s Eve, we can confirm that Isaac has been awarded the number 28 shirt for the 2026 season.
