We are pleased to confirm that youngster Louis Beattie has signed a 12-month extension to this contract.
Louis, 19, joined the Canes on trial during the off-season in search of his first professional contract. After having an opportunity to make his mark off the bench during the Canes’ 34-38 pre-season victory over Batley Bulldogs, his performances on and off the field earned him a contract until the end of the 2025 season.
Unfortunately for Louis, injuries throughout the season prevented him from making his competitive debut for the club, although he was named as the 18th man for the Canes during our last match of the season against Newcastle Thunder. Having recovered from those injuries, Beattie will be keen to push on and take that all important next step in his career.
Speaking with CanesTV, Louis had this to say on signing for 2026:
“I’m really excited to be signing for the Canes again for the upcoming season.
Last year was a tough one for me personally due to being ruled out of the season through injury after making my first appearance in Canes colours during our pre-season game against Batley. With that setback behind me, I’m ready to get stuck in and earn my competitive debut with the Canes this year.“
Head Coach Mark Dunning also spoke with CanesTV, saying:
“We’re really pleased that Louis has committed to the club for at least one more year.
2025 was a tough one for him with injuries ruling him out for a large proportion of the season but his commitment never faltered. Louis is still a young man and is a third quartile member of his age group, so he’s got plenty of development potential and we will nurture him accordingly.
He’s working hard to reach the standards needed and we look forward to seeing his development in a Canes shirt.“
Louis becomes our 15th off-season squad announcement, with no fewer than eight new signings and seven additional retentions.
